Steve is the Charles M. Pigott Professor of Management Science and Engineering, and the founder and co-director of the Center for Work, Technology and Organization at Stanford University’s School of Engineering.  He is also the co-director of the General Motors/Stanford University Collaborative Research Laboratory on Work Systems, and the editor of the Stanford Social and Innovation Review.

Steve is widely respected as one of the foremost thinkers, authors and speakers on the impact of technology on work, and organizational and occupational cultures.  His recent book, Gurus, Hired Guns and Warm Bodies: Itinerant Experts in a Knowledge Economy (Princeton University Press, 2004), was nominated by Amazon as one of the ten best business books of 2004. He has also authored over 50 books and articles. He is the recipient of the Academy of Management’s New Concept Award and co-author of the National Academy of Science’s acclaimed report, The Changing Nature of Work.
